I have been working in live video production for many years, gaining extensive experience across a range of projects and events. Most recently, my role at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) has allowed me to oversee large-scale productions, including the college’s main graduation ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall in Southbank Centre. This is a full-day event that we live stream to YouTube, while also broadcasting within the hall itself. On the day, I manage all aspects of the audiovisual (AV) production, coordinating a team of external camera operators and internal RVC staff to ensure smooth execution. I also work closely with the AV team at the Royal Festival Hall and collaborate with photographers and the marketing team to make sure every element of the event runs seamlessly.
In addition to high-profile events like graduation, I regularly work on a variety of student-led productions at the RVC. Some of the recurring projects I handle include the ‘Final Year Review,’ the student play, and the student music show. The ‘Final Year Review’ is a two-night event held at a local theatre, where I provide live video mixing and capture the performance on both nights. For the student play, which takes place in the sports hall, I set up the PA system, microphones, and video equipment, working closely with the performing arts society to support their vision. Similarly, the student music show, held in external theatres, involves live video mixing and close collaboration with theatre teams to ensure a flawless production.
Over the years, I have developed a deep understanding of the technical and creative aspects of live video production. My work requires a blend of problem-solving, technical proficiency, and leadership to manage the logistics and deliver a polished final product. Whether it’s a large-scale event like graduation or a smaller student performance, I approach each project with the same commitment to excellence, ensuring that the final output meets both the technical and creative standards expected.
