I have been working in podcasting since 2007 and have had the privilege of managing and producing three highly successful podcasts at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC): the RVC Research Podcast, the RVC Clinical Podcast, and the Veterinary Nurse Podcast (Evidence-Based Practice). These podcasts have garnered a global audience, reflecting the growing popularity of podcasting as a medium for sharing knowledge and engaging with listeners. As podcasting continues to evolve and expand, I am excited to see the potential for even greater reach and impact in the future.
I take great pride in producing these podcasts, which involve a combination of careful planning, recording, and editing to ensure each episode delivers valuable insights and high-quality content. I particularly enjoy the creative process of shaping the episodes—from the initial discussions with guests and experts to the technical aspects of recording and post-production. My experience in audio production allows me to maintain a polished and professional sound, ensuring that each episode meets the expectations of our listeners.
The shift to online recordings during the pandemic presented new challenges, but it also allowed me to explore innovative ways of maintaining the same high standard of production remotely. I adapted quickly by setting up virtual recording environments, ensuring that we could continue to produce regular content despite restrictions on studio access. This flexibility has not only kept the podcasts running smoothly, but also opened up new possibilities for collaborating with guests from around the world.
My long-standing involvement in podcasting has not only enhanced my technical skills but also deepened my understanding of audience engagement. Each of the RVC podcasts serves a distinct purpose—whether it’s communicating the latest research findings, discussing clinical practices, or supporting veterinary nurses in evidence-based practice. My role is to ensure that the content is both informative and accessible, catering to a diverse audience of professionals, students, and enthusiasts in the veterinary field.
Looking ahead, I am excited to continue developing these podcasts and exploring new ways to connect with our audience. Podcasting is a dynamic and ever-growing medium, and I am committed to staying at the forefront of this field, both creatively and technically.
